Magpies are usually known as pests who steal things, but now here’s a true story that has warmed hearts here at DR HQ and shows things are not as black and white as they seem….
Sam Bloom from the Australian para-kayak team ‘adopted’ a baby magpie she found one windy day soon after she became paralysed. With her three sons she took on feeding ‘Penguin’ the magpie every two hours (so called because of his big feet and white and black fluffy feathers).
This saved his life and in turn is credited by the family for saving theirs.
Penguin became part of the family, living with them and becoming a listening ear for Sam, as she slowly recovered from her accident, as well as a playmate for the boys.
